Transformative Healing Methods: Trauma, Addiction, and Relationship Support
I treat trauma – childhood, shock (eg. accidents, medical) and relational (eg. betrayal, bullying). Utilizing Internal Family Systems (IFS), Eye Movement and Desensitizing Reprocessing (EMDR) and Psychedelic-assisted Psychotherapy (PAT), I help clients access and heal the origins of emotional distress. These models are experiential, not “talk therapy”.
I work with any adults, ages 21and up. However, I also specialize in treating those suffering from alcoholism and addiction, their family members and adult children of alcoholics. Often, people impacted by addiction – their own or someone else’s – carry the heavy burdens of shame, anxiety, low self-esteem and other extremely painful legacies.
If you are ready to dive deeply into the roots of your distress, IFS, EMDR or PAT may be a fit for you.
I also offer Gottman Method Couples Counselling. The Gottman Method is an evidence-based model of couples counselling, based on decades of relationship research by Drs. John and Julie Gottman. It is used world wide to support couples’ communication and conflict resolution skills.  I am certified in Levels 1 and 2 Gottman Method counselling, and have used it for over 10 years to help couples improve their relationships.

I offer services to clients in Lake Country, Vernon and Kelowna from my Lake Country office. I commit to provide a safe, non-judgmental space for you to explore your life from the inside out. I can help you untangle life’s knots by bringing unconscious thoughts and emotions to the surface so you can access your own deep healing and wisdom.
I have utilized a variety of therapy models in my counselling practice, and have found the experiential treatments to be the most effective for treating persistent and puzzling emotional and behavioral patterns. These patterns have been learned and overlearned in response to whatever life has presented to us, as our systems adapted and survived. However, in the present, they may no longer be helpful and may even harm us. This “stuck” emotional content can continually trigger anxiety, hopelessness, confusion, addiction or depression. These patterns may also be present in couples dynamics.  I can assist couples to see and modify reactive patterns that undermine trust and intimacy.

Trauma Therapy

I specialize in addressing various forms of trauma, including childhood experiences, unexpected events like accidents or medical crises, and relational challenges such as betrayal or bullying. By employing Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), I provide experiential therapies that move beyond conventional “talk therapy.” These methods are designed to help clients delve into the roots of their trauma, facilitating healing from deep-seated emotional wounds and fostering significant, transformative recovery.

I provide specialized therapy for individuals facing alcoholism and addiction, as well as their families and adult children. Understanding the unique challenges of addiction, including shame, anxiety, and low self-esteem, I use IFS and EMDR to help clients navigate and overcome these issues. My approach aims to support and heal both individuals and their loved ones, addressing the deep impact of addiction.

“Together we are all on a journey called life. We are a little broken and a little shattered inside. Each one of us is aspiring to make it to the end. None is deprived of pain here and we have all suffered in our own lives. I think our journey is all about healing ourselves and healing each other in our own special ways. Let’s just help each other put all those pieces back together and make it to the end more beautifully. Let us help each other survive.”
– Ram Dass

“I was drawn to Mary because she is familiar with the principles of recovery, which resonated deeply with me. I was thrilled to discover I found much more than just an EMDR therapist. Mary is kind, relatable and insightful. I have seen many therapists over the years, and I feel the sessions with her have provided the most tangible results.”
